Dig for Victory Gardens

This week, we have been developing our skills with regard to perimeter and area. We worked hard to learn the method thoroughly and then we applied these skills through our project work.
We decided to design our own victory gardens...

Jack and Jack worked really hard to add lots of objects to their garden. They even included a well and calculate the area and perimeter effectively.

Tyler designed his garden beautifully and calculated the area and perimeter well.

A great garden design Kayleigh and Charlie. You worked well to calculate, check and record the area and perimeter.

Next steps class 9-VOLUME!

What is Justice?

Today we explored the concept of justice.  What is justice? What does it look like?

We began by finding definitions of justice and then thought about how justice was given or not given to people involved in World War Two.

I was very proud of your deeper thinking Year 6, you thought really carefully about the idea of justice.

Rationing

This week in history we focussed on rationing.

First we spent a lot of time researching what rationing was, how it worked, what ration books were used for and what we could make with rations for a meal.

Next we started to make our own rationing menus for our families. We had lots of fun.

I am very proud of you once again Class 9. Well done.

Test Shots...

Today we began to plan and create our photography exhibition. The basis of our exhibition and photographs is to tell stories of the lives of Evacuees.

The first thing we did was research old photographs of evacuees.

After this we looked at props, set design, emotions, costumes and positioning of people in the pictures.

Here are some of our test shots...

These test shots were amazing Class 9. These outcomes for our project will be amazing.

The Blitz

Today we learnt all about the Blitz. We found out plenty of facts and more exciting information. We all picked out our favourite pictures and stuck them on our work to look really old fashioned, and amazing. We found out the main leaders of World War 2 and they were called Adolf Hitler (the German leader) and Winston Churchill, (the English leader).

Here are Kayleigh and Charlie working on the bed in our classroom. As you can see they are working very hard and concentrating perfectly.

Here are Brendon and Jack looking for information for their work. They look like they are having a lot of fun!

This is Darcie and Mrs Leigh. As you can see they are holding a picture of two very upset older ladies. Their faces are trying to copy them on the picture!

PE Time

Today we where travelling in different ways around our school playground. We used a circuit to help us with our traveling in PE.

Darcie traveled by doing a cartwheel, she has been practicing gymnastics for 5 years.

Here we were doing our signature moves. And Ben was waving at the camera.

Propaganda Posters

Today we analysed propaganda posters. We looked at a range of posters and analysed key features.

After this we built a rubric and picked out key features of a propaganda poster. We then used this rubric to support our designs.

We chose our teams and designed posters collaboratively. Look out for more drafts and ideas.

Miss Crockley's group came up with some great ideas for contrasting images.

The boys decided to create their own designs and then pick out the best bits of each others.

Both groups worked extremely hard to show mixed hidden messages within their drafts. Great work using your deeper thinking skills.

Keep track of how these posters develop by viewing our blog.

First Matheletes Club 29.09.14

Mathlete's Club

Today we had our very first Matheletes club. The children were fantastic and they worked hard to complete several activities.
First, we tried to solve some problems including number squares, hidden shapes and number pattern games.
Afterwards, we completed a challenge. We started to design our Matheletes logos. They are excellent and the challenge of choosing just one will be hard.

Well done Mathlete's!
