Collecting data- top grossing Disney films of all time...

This week we will be creating a statistical report to support our project work. We collected data on the top grossing disney films of all time. We were shocked by some of our findings. None of us thought that Toy Story 3 would be the top selling film.

Our next task was to covert the amount of dollars to pounds. Keep checking back to see updates on our report!

Exploring calculating....

I am so proud of my SATS group this week. We have been working hard to discuss what we needed to learn and revise.

We decided to work on missing number problems and explaining our answers including how we chose our operations for calculating.

Well done- you are all amazing!

Adding and subtracting decimals

Today we worked hard to ensure our knowledge of decimals was secure. We created a guide to adding and subtracting decimals and then we applied this knowledge to help us. Have a look at our beautiful work.

Fractions, fractions, fractions...

Last week we were looking at converting fractions, adding and subtracting fractions and multiplying fractions.

We even learnt how to convert a range of fractions. We then taught each other. Well done Class 9. You were great!

Mean, Median and Mode

We had a brilliant time in maths today learning about Mean, median and mode. We first recalled what they meant and discovered that when we know we can let people know very loudly and very clearly!! You showed excellent knowledge Class 9 I must say.

We had an excellent time measuring and finding averages of body parts in our class. We found out that I do not have the biggest head in the class. We also discovered average lengths and used these to order sets of data. Well done Class 9- excellent and fun!

Mathlete's 17.11.14

Today, in Mathlete's, we picked a group of 2 or 3, and worked out a very complicated problem. The problem that we had to solve was 'how many squares do you get on a squared sheet of paper'. It turned out that the highest worked out was 1400 squares, found by Leoni, Ellie and Lily. The second highest was found by me (Holly) and Jessica, we worked out 1069 squares.

Here is Morgan and Alex, they are working out how many squares are on one sheet.

Here are Sophie, Callum and Caitlin. They are calculating the amount of squares that they could see.

On this lovely picture Michael is carefully calculating the squares. Well Done!

On this great picture Gwire, is carefully looking at his squares. How complicated does that look!

Volume of Gas Mask Boxes

23.10.14
This week, we have been learning to calculate the volume. We decided to calculate the volume because we are going to make our own gas mask boxes. We worked hard to compare sizes and calculate effectively.

Well done Kaylee, you calculated well using the method shown.

WOW Jess- you worked so hard to calculate the volume independently.

Well done Class9. You have shown many skills. You are amazing mathmaticians!

Dig for Victory Gardens

This week, we have been developing our skills with regard to perimeter and area. We worked hard to learn the method thoroughly and then we applied these skills through our project work.
We decided to design our own victory gardens...

Jack and Jack worked really hard to add lots of objects to their garden. They even included a well and calculate the area and perimeter effectively.

Tyler designed his garden beautifully and calculated the area and perimeter well.

A great garden design Kayleigh and Charlie. You worked well to calculate, check and record the area and perimeter.

Next steps class 9-VOLUME!

First Matheletes Club 29.09.14

Mathlete's Club

Today we had our very first Matheletes club. The children were fantastic and they worked hard to complete several activities.
First, we tried to solve some problems including number squares, hidden shapes and number pattern games.
Afterwards, we completed a challenge. We started to design our Matheletes logos. They are excellent and the challenge of choosing just one will be hard.

Well done Mathlete's!
